StopZilla just made it worse, so did Windows Security.

Oopsie! Looks like trouble lady. sad.gif
Even though you've not clearly mentioned what the problem is, it looks like you've been hit by something similar to what had hit my puter a few days back.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware helped fix the nasties though
you can download it from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org

I also hope you have a good anti-virus program too, though some of these viruses might slash right through. I personally use AVG.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if things got sorted out. Ang is somewhere out there, I'll grab her if you need more help.

Here's what happened: I got this popup security warning that said I had a Trojan Horse Virus. So I tried to fix it with Windows Defender (I think) and that made it worse so I tried StopZilla because that was the first thing I found. It listed many many baddies with many of those being "critical". I paid 40 bucks and tried to remove it all but it didn't work and it just got worse.
I keep losing my entire desktop, it om comes for a while and disappears again. Right now it seems to be gone for good again. It ususally comes back on reboot. If I can click to open something before the icon disappears it will open, that's how I got here. But right now I have only this open browser and no way to open anything else.
I ran the malaware scan and it said it removed things and it would remove the rest on reboot, but they are still there. AVG can't seem to get rid of them either. I am running another scan with the same program and it is still showing all that stuff. Why didn't it remove it????
My AVG keeps popping up windows that say THREAT DETECTED and I click heal and is says object successfully healed.
HELP HELP HELP!!!
karvel
The second scan finished and it said to click show results, but that window doesn't show up. It is gone just like everything else, even though the scan has been running. I guess I'll reboot and try again?
If I haven't mentioned it before, HELP!!!!

Oh hon I am so sorry to hear this sad.gif

Try going to this forum http://www.castlecops.com/f67-Trend_Micro_...kThis_Logs.html and run the HighJackThis tool. It will spit out a report on all the visible and invisible running processes. DO NOT HIT THE CLEAN UP/DELETE BUTTON - all you want is the report. Take that report over to the above forum and post it there in a new thread. Someone there will help you, just explain in your post what is going on (copy and paste from here to save typing again). I wish I could do this for you but I am not a security expert and you have to know what you are looking at in that report because you do not want to delete the necessary processes. If you are uncomfortable posting there just post the report here and I will go take care of it for you. I will off of here in about an hour and won't be back until tomorrow so if I don't respond to you you will know why, however, there is always someone around to help smile.gif

Hey!! I ran that anti-malware scan again, deleted the AVG threats as they popped up and removed everything the malware scan found. Then I restarted in safe mode and then restarted again (I wasn't sure, but I thought I remembered doing that before) and I seem to be ok for now!!!!!!
Everything is still on!!!!!!
Should I maybe run another scan just to check things out???
Susy
I would run another scan just to be sure, and try the Trend Micro Housecall scan. It's pretty darn good.

Ok, will do.
It's still working though!!!! smile.gif
I was ready to spend $170.00 minimum with Geek Squad.

LOL <drools> you're welcome hon. We might not be experts, but at least we can get you where you need to be. Computer repair is getting ridiculous, the rates are going up like crazy. Although, there just are times you have to give it over to them. sad.gif There's a TON of information online, and do keep castlecops link handy. You can never get enough help with online things. If you lose the link, it's here in this part of the forum under helpful links http://affiliatesdelight.com/index.php?showtopic=192 along with several other helps.

I'm glad things worked out so you didn't have to go blow your Christmas fund. wink.gif LOL
Nutty Ang

My brothers computer had a similar problem to karvel's.He was surfing and a pop up message said he had a virus and for hm to pay and download "the fix".

He called and I told him not to pay or d/l anything until I could get some help. It turned out the "fix" WAS the virus and if he had d/led it he'd have had a heck of a mess.

If I can remember the name I will edit and post but I have since heard of a couple others caught by the same message.

If it isnt from an antivirus or spyware/malware program on your computer I would not be downloading it.

grrr....I HATE whoever makes and distributes that garbage...
